President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday condemned settler attacks on Palestinians and violations at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, a statement following a PLO executive meeting said.
"We cannot stand idly by and allow such atrocities to continue," the president said during the meeting. "East Jerusalem is our capital, Al-Aqsa is ours, the church of the holy sepulcher is ours, we will not stand for these crimes."
Abbas called on Arab and Islamic states, and the international community, to intervene against Israeli violations.
Tensions have been high around the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem over the past week, as Israel has limited access to Palestinian worshipers while allowing Israelis to tour the compound under armed guard.
