A dog has taken on the role of foster parent to two young children in a small village in Kenya. The motherly dog named Oscar keeps a watchful eye on the young children and escorts them to and from school every day.
Seven-year-old Mbogo and six-year-old Wanjiku were abandoned by their alcoholic mother after she could not care for them. They are now in the care of their grandmother. But with five other children to look after, their grandmother cannot watch over them all the time.
Oscar began looking after the children around 6 years ago, taking on the role of their protector. She is well liked by many residents in the Kirigu Village in the Dagoretti area of Nairobi, and her motherly duties have made her a bit of a legend.
